It doesn’t get more official than this, I awake this morning to find a new gigantic splash page on worldofwarcraft.com announcing the newest expansion pack, World of Warcraft: The Wrath of the Lich King slated to release…

WotLK Release Date: November 13th, 2008

With just under 2 months before release you can expect to see patch 3.0.2 hit the live servers very soon. There’s a lot of work to be done over at blizzard to get everything ready for the expansion, but if I know one thing about Blizzard…when a release date is announced there is no returning.

WotLK Release Date Announced?

Well, not exactly, but as close as it gets before it’s actually in your hands. Normally blizzard won’t respond in any way to requests for estimations on the wotlk release date, but Neth did manage to give some hint that things are well under way with this post.

We have an idea and we’ll be announcing a date once everything is in place for it. :)

While this may not seem like much, it does further back up initial wotlk release date speculations. Speculations fueled by remarks made by Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime in addition to an official vivendipress releases, both of which point to a November / December release date.

This most recent tantelizing bit does intrique me. I hope that the “everything in place” remark is simply in reference to finalizing balance issues with the new talents and such, in which case maybe they will have a release date that’s earlier than expected!

Official Wrath of the Lich King Release Date *UPDATED*

Quite unexpectedly Blizzard gave us even more information today regarding the wrath of the lich king release date. Blizzard Entertainment CEO, Mike Morhaime announced in a conference call today that WotLK will be released between October to December of 2008. I’m sure we’ll get additional information regarding more specific dates as time wears on here.

In addition to formally (or at least as formal as we can get at this point) announcing the release date, Mike also had some choice words regarding blizzard’s major “competition”, Age of Conan.

Age of Conan released with some initial success. We did see some of our players leave, [but] about 40% of those players have returned to World of Warcraft.

[We have] a product that has been continually enhanced, expanded and refined for almost four years now.

No word regarding SC2 or D3, Mr. Morhaime simply put,

Official Wrath of the Lich King Release Date *UPDATED*

Though it has yet to be officially confirmed by Blizzard yet, Vivendi announced earlier this morning in a press release that Wrath of the Lich King will be released sometime in the second half of 2008.

While most World of Warcraft players expected it to be within this time frame, it’s nice to get a definite answer from Vivendi. With the cat out of the bag, I would imagine an official response from Blizzard would appear in the near future.
