Priest / Rogue vs. Shadow Priest / Warlock 2v2 Arena Strategy

June 23, 2008 by Zuggy · Leave a Comment

shadow priest warlock 2v2 arenaYet again, not the most popular combo these days, but it still pops up every once and a while. The strategy here isn’t too complicated, open on the priest and just punish him. The only really important thing to remember here is to save your cloak for when your priest is really controlled.

Between all the fears, death coil, silence, and spell lock your priest is going to be hurting for casting time. You’ll want to try and save it to clear as many DoTs as you can and also keep yourself alive until your priest can cast again.

As the priest your best bet is going to be spamming instants every time you aren’t controlled. Prayer of mending, shield, renew are all important, all the while attempting to stay out of line of sight as much as possible to avoid other controlling spells.

Druid / Warrior vs. Priest / Rogue 2v2 Arena Strategy

June 20, 2008 by Zuggy · Leave a Comment

This can be a difficult fight against well played rogue/priest combos. The druid should be particularly careful of using his trinket at the wrong time, because blind+ vanish sap will be the end of your warrior. I would have to suggest to kill the priest first. Mana burn will lose these matches for you. Now, 9 times out of 10 the rogue will be attempting to lock you down but use your CDs initially to bring the priest down, put as much pressure as you can so he can’t mana burn, locking the priest down also helps with mace spec. As for the druid perspective, LoS mana burns but don’t forget to stay in the LoS of your warrior. A rogue can out DPS a warrior very fast.

Using Deathwish early to force them to play defensively is also a good idea. If you communicate early about how much damage you are taking, your Druid can get in and out of range of the Rogue’s blind to drop roots/cyclone/HoTs. Remember to cyclone the rogue if he is locking down the warrior so that he can’t stay on the priest at all. As with most fights, communication and good CC will allow you to win this. If in the case that the druid gets Blind + vanish sapped, then you need do all you can to survive, this means that you equip a shield and sword then mitigate his damage as much as possible. This can be a cookie-cutter fight if you remember to save trinkets for the blind and keep the Druid away from the Priest.

Druid / Warrior vs. Druid / Warrior 2v2 Arena Strategy

This match will be based on the skill of the players. I prefer to charge the warrior and keep him away from your druid. Warriors hit like trucks and they can easily take down a druid. Use your CDs early to put pressure on the druid, in the case that your druid gets low then intervene and disarm—it’s a life saver.

If you have the opportunity to intercept and get an enraged Mortal Strike on the opposing druid then do it. If your Warrior gets low, you should also switch to Defensive Stance and Disarm/Thunder Clap/Demo Shout. Your Druid should be alternating Cyclone/Root to keep diminishing returns low. It almost always comes down to who has better gear in this situation. This situation comes down to gear 90% of the time. As far as druids go, they should drink whenever possible, even if it is just for 1 tick.

Use Innervate early, you should gain the mana advantage when your second Innervate is ready. Disturb the opposing Druid only if you have the mana-advantage, otherwise there is no use in keeping both of you in combat. If your warrior is in a position to keep both the Warrior and Druid in combat he should switch to a 1 handed weapon and shield and defensive stance to allow you to drink to full mana. Cyclone the druid during innervate, it won’t tick then. After the druid is at full mana, you can either help the warrior DPS or you are also in a position to to chase down the warrior.

Help the warrior do this via root spam, make sure you cyclone or roots the other warrior before your warrior intercepts and begins DPSing the druid down. Preemptive HoTing and drinking are key to winning this mirror combo.

Druid / Warrior vs. Druid / Warlock 2v2 Arena Strategy

June 20, 2008 by Zuggy · Leave a Comment

To start this fight, you are going to charge the pet and kill it. For the duration of this fight, you will be on the warlock. As the warrior you shouldn’t allow the warlock to cast ANY fears, have Natur enemy cast bar to keep track of their CDs. Ideally, you should pop deathwish early on the warlock so the druid pops out early and starts to use mana. If the warlock is low on HP (less than 45%) then stick to him, if he isn’t less than 45% intercept to the druid to put some extra pressure on him to get him on the run.

Have your druid cyclone their druid, try to keep him CCed to prevent any heals on the warlock. Be careful of the fear here, you don’t want to be CCed at this point. Your druid should also bash the opposing team’s druid for added CC. If you are having trouble staying on the warlock due to curses etc. Then have your druid decurse you, this fight is long and good communication will win you a lot of fights. The druid should try to keep the opposing druid CCed by using feral charge, regrowth (if you can), bash, cyclone, cyclone.

This gives you a full 17 seconds of CC on the druid. You should wait to use this CC routine until after the druid trinkets and when the lock is lower than 45%. Remember to avoid drain mana by getting into bear form, you can lose a lot of mana if you aren’t aware that you are being burned then you will not with many fights. Your druid should also try to keep the other druid in combat to avoid drinking. This is a very long fight, but it isn’t necessarily difficult.

Druid / Warrior vs. Druid / Hunter 2v2 Arena Strategy

June 20, 2008 by Zuggy · Leave a Comment

This combo is very difficult. You are already at a huge disadvantage because you have lost the mana fight, the hunter will be using viper sting to mana burn your druid. Now for the strat, I would suggest that the warrior immediately charge and start DPSing the hunter. Don’t initially blow your CDs here, instead save them and when the druid pops out of stealth. Eventually he will waste his mana healing through your damage. The mace spec and improved hamstring truly shine here, they enable you to disrupt the hunter casts and ultimately do more damage.

While you are busy sticking to the hunter, the your druid should Keep in his melee range and force the healer to try and out do your DPS. Druid should be in bear form to avoid Drains, eat traps and CC. Bash/Root if you can on the Hunter to keep him in your Warriors striking range. Don’t forget to kill the pet!! Sweeping strikes can sometimes help you achieve this without having to change targets. Try to toss a low rank Faerie Fire, Moonfire, Insect Swarm on the druid to keep him in combat to avoid drinks. Once again, this is a very difficult fight so don’t get down if you find yourselves having trouble with it. Its easily one of the hardest combos you will encounter.

Druid / Warrior vs. Mage / Warlock 2v2 Arena Strategy

June 20, 2008 by Zuggy · Leave a Comment

While this can be another counter to druid/warrior, its nothing to worry about because you will find that there are very few of these types of combos. Mainly because it dies to anything with a rogue in it. Anyways, your primary objective is not only to help the druid survive but to stay on the warlock as best you can. Ideally, he shouldn’t get any fears off. Warlocks will die fast, when you are CCed make sure the Druid helps you by using roots on the warlock. Also, the warrior will be CCed quite heavily, use your trinket on a long frost nova.

The druid should also LoS as much of the damage from the mages and warlocks as possible. Avoid Mana drains and spellsteals if at all possible. Warrior just needs to focus on DPSing the warlock down, attempt to do this after DR is in your favor by using your CDs early. It can be a tricky fight if they execute their combo well and if they get a bit of luck, but like I said before, it is too difficult for anyone running this combo to rise in the ranks. Thank god for that.

Priest / Rogue vs. Druid / Rogue 2v2 Arena Strategy

June 20, 2008 by Zuggy · Leave a Comment

Priest / rogue vs. druid / rogue is an interesting fight. Initially I didn’t include this strategy in my guide simply because it’s so rarely seen. That said, the strategy is somewhat similar to the way priest / rogue should fight druid / warrior.

As far as target selection goes, the rogue needs to be on the other rogue. By doing this you basically force the other rogue onto you, if the other rogue attempts to go after your priest he exposes his back to you and you can just slam away at him.

At this point it’s basically a battle of mana. Your priest should be attempting to fear and mana burn the druid constantly, this keeps him from just sitting back and spam casting cyclone.

One of the biggest problems for this combo is getting past the spam poison cleansing that the druid is going to hit you with. If you’ve chosen to pickup vile poisons this might not be a big issue for you, however with my spec I don’t get it. To handle this I will put wound poison on my off hand and crippling on the main hand (normally it’s the other way around). This way I can spam shiv to keep wound poison up, which in turn keeps solid pressure since heals are reduced.

Additionally this will help keep crippling up, since the abolish poison will have to eat through several rounds of wound.

Priest / Rogue vs. Druid / Warlock 2v2 Arena Strategy

June 19, 2008 by Zuggy · 2 Comments

The druid / warlock combo can be difficult, the amount of control the combo has is simply stupid. While you really aren’t going to eliminate the druid’s control the rogue can dramatically shut down the warlock if he plays it right.

That means really focusing on holding back energy so you never miss a kick, never miss a kidney shot, and do everything he can to not gear feared off the lock. The rogue is going to do a lot more damage than the warlock is if he can stay on his target.

The priest’s role here isn’t too difficult. Basically, do what you can to avoid getting controlled, IE line of sight kite as much as possible. Use prayer of mending to really punish the warlock for his DoTs.

The biggest bane for the priest is the fel hunter, as the fight drags on the priest will probably have to drink, so make sure the rogue is prepared to AR / BF down the pet on command. Killing pets can be an absolute must vs. particular teams. The best way to pull this off is typically to pull the pet out of LoS then have the rogue chase it down and drop the bomb.

Above all just remember that the rogue needs to constantly be doing damage to something, be that the warlock, the warlock’s pet, or the druid.
