Site News for WotLK

Just a few final notes regarding upcoming guides and stratgies on Zug Gaming. First off, thanks for all the concerned emails regarding the talent spec guides. WoWhead made a few changes to their code and as a result left 100% of my linked talent builds broken. I’ll be creating new level 80 talent builds for all classes in the coming weeks, at which point these will be fixed.

While we’re on the topic of talent specs I’d like to go ahead and announce the rebirth of the Zug Gaming Talent Calculator. It’s fairly close, but my limited coding knowlege is slowing my progress. I’m currently looking for a programmer fluent in javascript to assist me in the final steps of completion of this project.

Additionally, I’ve got big plans for a host of new guides and strategies. I’ll be covering everything from arena to dungeons, professions to gold farming, if it’s in the WotLK you’ll find it here!

Relaunch of Zug Gaming Newsletter Club

I started the Zug Gaming Club several months ago, and while it got off to a solid start obligations with school and work kept me from really spending as much attention on it as I would have liked. With most of those obligations under relative control I’ve decided to start the Zug Gaming Club back up!

You can sign up for free using the form to the right in the side bar. After signing up you’ll receive a confirmation email, make sure you click this to start receiving members updates, announcments, tips, and more!

Join the Team!

I’m always looking for strong, personable writers to join the Team Zug Gaming writers staff. If you’re interested in the opportunity to help Zug Gaming continue to grow and have your guides read by hundreds of thousands of WoW gamers every month please don’t hesitate to send me an email at support(at)zuggaming(dot)com or click the contact link above.

Wrath of the Lich King: What can I do to get ready?

November 3, 2008 by S-Scythe · 3 Comments

Well WOTLK is going to hit US stores in ten days and I can’t say more than 1-2 days later for places all across the globe. There’s been a bit of talk of preparation for the expansion, so I thought why not sum it all up here?

WotLK Professions

It’s a little late to be starting a new profession at this point, but if you currently have a profession around 250-300 I’d say finish it up for awesome perks for level 80 stuff. What perks might you ask, well you can find them here:

Profession Bonus Perks

Inscription:

This will become a top dog money maker for level 80 when arena season 5 hits. It’s very possible to powerlevel this profession quickly; however, if you were late of stocking up on herbs your wallet might be hurting.

WotLK Gold Farming

At this point I’d say stock up as much gold as possible. If you haven’t gotten your epic flight mount though I would make an investment there. Why a 5200g mount? Well Northrend is going to be huge from what I’ve heard on the beta, so why torture yourself on a 100% ground mount or 60% flight mount? For gold farming you’ll want to take a look at Derek’s guide, I have a review in the forums but the overall summary is I am one happy consumer. You can find it here(YES, it will be revamped for WOTLK so you too can make ridiculous amounts of cash at 80)

http://dominatewowgold.com/dwg/index.html

WotLK Bank, Bags, Etc.

SELL, SELL AND SELL!!! You’ll want fresh bags and a whole lot of bank space for the vast amounts of items you’ll be gathering on your way to 80.  You’ve got time for this particular preparation step, but don’t procrastinate to the point where your items aren’t worth crap.

WotLK PvP and PvE

At this point in arena you’re probably just messing around with 3.0 talents and probably grabbing a few pieces of gear from the arena vendors. This isn’t a bad idea as the gear will last you about 3-5 levels before replacement. Now as for all you raiders out there you’re going to want to grab as much T6/Sunwell gear as possible. The stat inflation won’t be as ridiculous as Pre-BC to BC so that gear will last you ’til about level 68.

WotLK Leveling

Not a huge thing to be worried over, but you also don’t want to hinder yourself of time just because you didn’t want to drop a measly 50g. Basically once wrath drops respec to the talent spec that will allow you optimal PVE killing and dungeon crawling. You’ll probably grab a 51-point talent, but it’s more of a personal preference call.

Make Illidan eat his heart out by you BEING PREPARED and ignoring him for 10 levels lol.

This will probably be my last written site post before level 80, as I mainly wrote on pvp so I’ll seeya fellas Season 5! :)

Flying Mounts in Northrend

October 9, 2008 by Zuggy · 2 Comments

Nothing too unexpected here. There was some initial confusion regarding how you would get your flying mount training for Northrend. Currently the plan is to have it as a part of a quest chain at level 68 and require 1000 gold. This change is for 2 reasons.

  • Making you wait until level 77 forces you to see all of the zones in the order they were intended to be played through. There has been a significant improvement in the overall design and feel of each zone and it would be a shame to just “fly by” (pun intended!) them without experiencing the story line along with each zone.
  • The 1000g cost is simply attempting to further reduction inflation on your server’s economy by sucking probably between 25-50% of the overall gold you would have made by while leveling. Pretty lame in my opinion, but I understand blizzard’s reasoning behind it.

Cold Weather Flying was indeed a part of a quest line, but we changed it because we felt that it wasn’t clear enough where to get it.
This ability will now be purchasable instead, and the 1000 gold cost has been tuned around the amount of gold people will usually have gathered around level 77. At that level we expect you will have more than enough gold to afford getting the Cold Weather Flying ability. (source)

WotLK Northrend Daily Quests & Profession Token System

September 9, 2008 by Zuggy · 3 Comments

As many of you may have expected there are going to be a host of new daily quests in Northrend once wrath of the lich king releases. Just like with the burning crusade’s daily quests these will have a variety of awards, including:

  • Reputation
  • Gold
  • Items
  • Patterns
  • New Token System

Daily Quests Token System for Professions

Now before we get into all these new daily quests let’s talk about the new token system. In order to really do anything with your professions up to this point you had to.

  1. Grind reputation to buy patterns
  2. Farm / purchase very rare patterns
  3. Join a raiding guild and be fortunate enough to be given rare patterns

These were really the only ways you could get any long duration use out of your profession, but blizzard is chaging this random success factor quite a bit. In the expansion many professions will have daily quests associated with them, these daily quests will award you a specific token for that professions. These tokens may then be turned in for various patterns, formulas, schematics, etc.

Profession Daily Quests

wotlk daily professionsA few of these new profession daily quests have already been revealed.

Cooking Daily Quests

Once you train grand master cooking you’ll get a set of base line cooking recipes, these recipes use a variety of fish and meat that you’ll get in Northrend. In addition to these baseline recipes you also have the option of acquiring the upgraded versions of these recipes.

You can get these improved cooking recipes by completing the cooking daily quest, which will award you 1 Dalaran Cooking Award. You can turn in 3 of these to get 1 new recipe.

Jewelcrafting Daily Quests

After completling the daily jewelcrafting quest you will be awarded 1 dalaran jewelcrafter’s trophy. These tokens may be turned in for various gems and designs.

  • 1 Token = Uncut Jewelcrafter’s BoP Gem
  • 2 Tokens = Low Level Designs
  • 5 Tokens = High Level Designs
  • 8 Tokens = Meta Designs

I really think this is a great change, it will create a very interesting dynamic as far as supply and demand are concerned with designs amongst jewelcrafters. I’m very interested to see how this system is adapted for the remainder of the professions, but overall I feel it’s a great and welcome change.

Other Daily Quests

Quite honestly, none of the other daily quests were really all that exciting. So far only a handful of the new Northren dailies have been implemented. Most of which are designed around the time honored formula of collecting X of some item or killing X of what ever mob, you know the drill. That said, the group of daily quests located around Venture Bay in the Grizzly Hills does look pretty awesome.

There are 4 total daily quests here, of which include objectives such as…wotlk

  • Slaying Goblins
  • Killing player’s the opposing faction
  • Taking down the opposing faction’s captain

Ideally this area will become the location of some really good world PvP. Genreally when there’s gold + pvp glory in the same area it’s going to be good times for all. On top of the 15g you get for every quest here you also receive 10 venture coins for every quest. These coins be turned in for various PvP’ish items, check out the full list of venture coin item rewards here.

WotLK Info

June 20, 2008 by Zuggy · 1 Comment

If you’ve played World of Warcraft for any stretch of time then you probably could have seen this coming, and though it hasn’t officially been announced yet the rumors have been flying for months now on the details of a new expansion. And as in all things Blizzard related the first major leak sprang forth today.

Major Points:
-Northrend added to Azeroth world
-Level cap raised to 80
-New “Hero” Class, Death Knight (the class will have to unlocked via a set of criteria, though you will start at a high level)
-New battleground
-Destroyable objects in battlegrounds and siege weapons
-New Quests, Items, Skills, Etc.
-New Profession, Inscription (allows you to permanently buff abilities / skills / spells and create items of power to trade / sell / use / etc.)

Those familiar with the warcraft story already have a good idea of what we can expect out of the death knight. In warcraft 3 the death knight combined the powers of necromancy and magic with a heavy onslaught of melee attacks, and I fully expect to see a similar model produced for the new expansion. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the death knight in direct opposition to all things paladin (Arthas was a paladin before he was corrupted and became a death knight). Instead of a primary healer and secondary tank / dps, I believe we’ll see a primary tank / dps with some very limited secondary magic abilities and / or heals. It’s unclear yet how players will acquire the ability to play the death knight, simply stated they’ll have to meet a “set of criteria”, perhaps another server wide war effort, or a server boss kill, quest series, who knows, in any regard I’m excited about the introduction of the first hero class in WoW.

In addition the leak states that the 25-man raiding scheme will be continued in the next expansion, and that the level grind from 70 to 80 will take approximately the same time it took players to level from 60 to 70. Which is somewhat of a disappointment as the majority of hardcore players completed the grind in under a week, I had hoped they would extend the leveling process a bit. All in all the new expansion is looking great and I can’t wait to see the official announcement at Blizzcon.
