Wrath of the Lich King: What can I do to get ready?
November 3, 2008 by S-Scythe · 3 Comments
Well WOTLK is going to hit US stores in ten days and I can’t say more than 1-2 days later for places all across the globe. There’s been a bit of talk of preparation for the expansion, so I thought why not sum it all up here?
WotLK Professions
It’s a little late to be starting a new profession at this point, but if you currently have a profession around 250-300 I’d say finish it up for awesome perks for level 80 stuff. What perks might you ask, well you can find them here:
Inscription:
This will become a top dog money maker for level 80 when arena season 5 hits. It’s very possible to powerlevel this profession quickly; however, if you were late of stocking up on herbs your wallet might be hurting.
WotLK Gold Farming
At this point I’d say stock up as much gold as possible. If you haven’t gotten your epic flight mount though I would make an investment there. Why a 5200g mount? Well Northrend is going to be huge from what I’ve heard on the beta, so why torture yourself on a 100% ground mount or 60% flight mount? For gold farming you’ll want to take a look at Derek’s guide, I have a review in the forums but the overall summary is I am one happy consumer. You can find it here(YES, it will be revamped for WOTLK so you too can make ridiculous amounts of cash at 80)
http://dominatewowgold.com/dwg/index.html
WotLK Bank, Bags, Etc.
SELL, SELL AND SELL!!! You’ll want fresh bags and a whole lot of bank space for the vast amounts of items you’ll be gathering on your way to 80. You’ve got time for this particular preparation step, but don’t procrastinate to the point where your items aren’t worth crap.
WotLK PvP and PvE
At this point in arena you’re probably just messing around with 3.0 talents and probably grabbing a few pieces of gear from the arena vendors. This isn’t a bad idea as the gear will last you about 3-5 levels before replacement. Now as for all you raiders out there you’re going to want to grab as much T6/Sunwell gear as possible. The stat inflation won’t be as ridiculous as Pre-BC to BC so that gear will last you ’til about level 68.
WotLK Leveling
Not a huge thing to be worried over, but you also don’t want to hinder yourself of time just because you didn’t want to drop a measly 50g. Basically once wrath drops respec to the talent spec that will allow you optimal PVE killing and dungeon crawling. You’ll probably grab a 51-point talent, but it’s more of a personal preference call.
Make Illidan eat his heart out by you BEING PREPARED and ignoring him for 10 levels lol.
This will probably be my last written site post before level 80, as I mainly wrote on pvp so I’ll seeya fellas Season 5! :)

Daily Blue Posts - DoTs, Glyphs, Balance and More

DoTs Critting?
Originally, we liked the fact that dots didn’t crit. It’s one of the things that made them different from other types of spells. In turn, it meant that classes and specs that focused on dots cared about different stats than other classes. We think it’s interesting when say a ring drops, and the group has to speculate about who would get the most benefit out of it.
We are changing our minds about that design though, because it does make it hard to keep everyone scaling well with gear. A lot of raid buffs are based around adding things like crit and haste, which not everyone cares about to the same degree
Inscription Glyph Implementation
Glyphs are the product of a trade skill so we want to slowly release more over time.
Balance…70 vs. 80
L80 is our first priority, but we’ll respond to anything that we think needs attention at L70 over the next few weeks. No need to fill up the rest of this thread with what *you* think needs attention.
Experience Rewards for Battlegrounds?
No answers available. These are features we would like to implement in the future. Queuing from anywhere would likely be the first to come, though I could not say when at this point.
Paid Character Transfer News
The paid character transfer and name change services have been temporarily taken offline to relieve database stress. We hope to reactivate them in the next few hours.
Brewfest Achievement - Binary Brew
It will remain a part of the meta-achievement for Brewfest. As I said, some achievements take time to complete. This is one of them.
Heroic Violet Hold Fixes
The issue where Xevozz would hit the party for huge amounts of arcane damage has been resolved. We also added a behind the scenes spell that will give the tank of Ichoron some additional threat to keep the healer from pulling aggro quite so easily.

WotLK Paladin / Shaman Glyph Changes
October 3, 2008 by Zuggy · Leave a Comment
A few glyphs changes for paladins and shamans in the most recent beta update, build 9038. I like the paladin changes, though the 100 yards on a holy light seems a bit excessive. I would not be surprised to see this reduced to a more reasonable the 30-60 yard range.
The shaman changes on the other hand are flat out horrible. 3 or 4 minutes off the elemental totems are not going to convince any shaman to take these glyphs. There really is no situation where you can say…”yes, If only I had that extra 4 minutes off the totem…” If these glyphs were buffed to a 10 minute reduction or changed from major to a minor glyph you could make a case for them, otherwise I just don’t see any way you’d choose these over other glyphs.
Paladin
- Glyph of Holy Light - Your Holy Light grants 10% of its heal amount to up to 5 friendly targets within 100 yds of the initial target. (range changed from 5 to 100 yards)
- Glyph of Flash of Light - Your Flash of Light heals for 50% less initially, but also heals for 140% of its initial effect over 12 sec. (duration changed from 15 to 12 sec)
Shaman
- Glyph of Fire Elemental Totem - Reduces the cooldown of your Fire Elemental Totem by 4 min. (old version was 3 min)
- Glyph of Earth Elemental Totem - Reduces the cooldown of your Earth Elemental Totem by 4 min. (old version was 3 min)
WotLK Enchanting Scrolls
October 2, 2008 by Zuggy · Leave a Comment
Enchanting has always been a great profession, and it’s getting even better in the wrath of the lich king. Enchanting scrolls are the newest addition to the profession and will allow enchanters to put any enchant onto a scroll. This scroll can then be traded or sold to another player, who can simply apply the enchant themselves, allowing enchanters the ability to put items on the auction house.
The scrolls are easy to make, you just need the regular enchant materials and a special parchment created by inscribers.
Make sure you check out the complete list of WotLK enchants.
Inscription FAQ Guide
August 31, 2008 by Zuggy · 2 Comments
If you’ve been keeping up with all the recent news regarding new professions and inscription then you may have seen some of these days, if not let’s review really quick. Here’s a quick FAQ on inscription so you can get caught up on all the recent news.
- Inscription 101 Information, inscriber’s create glyphs that they can sell to other players. These players put these glyphs into 1 of their 6 glyph sockets. These will augment various skills, abilities, spells, etc. for the playing, making them more powerful.
- Your 6 glyph sockets (which appear in a new spell book page) are split into 2 categories, 3 major and 3 minor glyphs.
- Check this page for a full compiled listing of all known glyphs, WotLK inscription glyphs
- Inscriber’s gather materials for the profession via “milling”. You mill a group of 5 herbs to extra inscription materials, just like jewelcrafters prospect ore.
- Here’s a break down of the level ranges for milling of herbs:
- Inscription 1: Bloodthistle, Earthroot, Mageroyal, Peacebloom, Silverleaf
- Inscription 25: Briarthorn, Bruiseweed, Strangelkelp, Swiftthistle
- Inscription 75: Grave Moss, Kingsblood, Liferoot, Wild Steelbloom
- Inscription 125: Fadeleaf, Goldthorn, Khadgar’s Whisker, Wintersbite
- Inscription 175: Arthas’ Tears, Blindweed, Firebloom, Ghost Mushroom, Gromsblood, Purple Lotus, Sungrass
- Inscription 225: Dreamfoil, Golden Sansam, Icecap, Mountain Silversage, Plaguebloom.
- Inscription 275: All Outland herbs
- Inscription 325: All Northrend Herbs
- Each of the above brackets creates the same inscription materials. For example, briarthorn and swiftthistle will breakdown into the same material since they are both within the level 25 bracket.
- Major glyphs augment combat skills
- Minor glyphs augment non-combat skills (IE, things that will not typically change the outcome of a fight)
If you are even remotely considering going inscription in the expansion now would be an ideal time to purchase your herbs. Currently most of the 1-275 herbs are going to be extremely cheap, so you can pick up everything you’ll need materials wise to easily level your inscription up to 375. If you wait till expansion comes out you might be paying a lot more.

WotLK Inscription and Enchanting Update
July 21, 2008 by Zuggy · 2 Comments
Professional inscription makers and enchanters rejoice!
For quite some time now Blizzard has been telling us their working on a way for enchanters to sell their craft on the auction house. And it looks like that will finally happen in the expansion. While we don’t know a whole lot about what inscription actually will be like in the expansion here is what we do know on it’s relationship with enchanting.
- Inscriptionists will be able to save an enchant to a piece of blank parchment
- This parchment can then be sold on the auction house
- Another player purchases this and then applies it to their armor or weapons, just like the leather working and tailoring leg armors
It’s so simple I’m really surprised they haven’t implemented something like this until now. I love to see improvements like this to professions and the economy as a whole. There is so much the devs could do improve the in-game economy with just minor tweaks to professions and this is certainly a step in the right direction.
