PTR Patch 3.0.3 New Glyphs

Death Knight

  • Glyph of Corpse Explosion – Any target killed by your Corpse Explosion ability will also explode. Only affects targets within range of your Corpse Explosion ability, and cannot happen more than once every 6 seconds.

Druid

  • Glyph of Starfire – Your Starfire ability increases the duration of your Moonfire effect on the target by 3 sec, up to a maximum of 9 additional seconds.
  • Glyph of Wrath – Reduces the pushback suffered from damaging attacks while casting your Wrath spell by 50%.
  • Glyph of Innervate – Your Innervate spell now grants you full mana regeneration while casting for 20 sec, in addition to the effect on the primary target. Innervate’s effect is instead increased by 20% if you are the primary target.

Hunter

  • Glyph of Trueshot Aura - While your Trueshot Aura is active, you have 10% increased critical strike chance on your Aimed Shot

Mage

  • Glyph of Remove Curse – Your Remove Curse spell also makes the target immune to all curses for 4 sec.

Paladin

  • Glyph of Holy Light – Your Holy Light grants 10% of its heal amount to up to 5 friendly targets within 5 yards of the initial target.

Priest

  • Glyph of Shadow – While in Shadowform, your spell critical strikes increase your spell power by 10% of your Spirit for 10 sec.
  • Glyph of Spirit of Redemption – All heals cast while Spirit of Redemption is active have a 20% chance to increase the remaining duration of Spirit of Redemption by 4 sec.
  • Glyph of Shadow Word: Pain – Increases the damage done by your Mind Flay spell by 10% when your target is afflicted with Shadow Word: Pain.
  • Glyph of Mind Soothe – Removed.

Rogue

  • Glyph of Sinister Strike - Your Sinister Strike critical strikes have a 50% chance to add an additional combo point.
  • Glyph of Sprint – Increases the movement speed of your Sprint ability by an additional 30%, but reduces the duration by -5.0 sec.
  • Glyph of Rupture – Increases the duration of Rupture by 4.0 sec.
  • Glyph of Vigor – Vigor grants an additional 10 maximum energy.
  • Glyph of Shiv – Removed.

Shaman

  • Glyph of Lava - Your Lava Burst spell gains an additional 10% of your spellpower.
  • Glyph of Elemental Mastery – Reduces the cooldown of your Elemental Mastery ability by 30.0 sec.
  • Glyph of Flame Shock – Increases the duration of your Flame Shock ability by 6 sec and it is not consumed by casting Lava Burst.
  • Glyph of Strength of Earth - Damage on your Lava Lash is increased by an additional 10% if your weapon is enchanted with Flametongue.
  • Glyph of Earth Elemental Totem – Removed.
  • Glyph of Strength of Earth – Removed.
  • Glyph of Totem of Wrath – Removed.

Warlock

  • Glyph of Souls - Reduces the mana cost of your Ritual of Souls spell by 70%.

DoTs Critting?
Originally, we liked the fact that dots didn’t crit. It’s one of the things that made them different from other types of spells. In turn, it meant that classes and specs that focused on dots cared about different stats than other classes. We think it’s interesting when say a ring drops, and the group has to speculate about who would get the most benefit out of it.

We are changing our minds about that design though,
because it does make it hard to keep everyone scaling well with gear. A lot of raid buffs are based around adding things like crit and haste, which not everyone cares about to the same degree

Inscription Glyph Implementation
Glyphs are the product of a trade skill so we want to slowly release more over time.

Balance…70 vs. 80
L80 is our first priority, but we’ll respond to anything that we think needs attention at L70 over the next few weeks. No need to fill up the rest of this thread with what *you* think needs attention.

Experience Rewards for Battlegrounds?
No answers available. These are features we would like to implement in the future. Queuing from anywhere would likely be the first to come, though I could not say when at this point.

Paid Character Transfer News
The paid character transfer and name change services have been temporarily taken offline to relieve database stress. We hope to reactivate them in the next few hours.

Brewfest Achievement – Binary Brew
It will remain a part of the meta-achievement for Brewfest. As I said, some achievements take time to complete. This is one of them.

Heroic Violet Hold Fixes
The issue where Xevozz would hit the party for huge amounts of arcane damage has been resolved. We also added a behind the scenes spell that will give the tank of Ichoron some additional threat to keep the healer from pulling aggro quite so easily.

WotLK Paladin / Shaman Glyph Changes

A few glyphs changes for paladins and shamans in the most recent beta update, build 9038. I like the paladin changes, though the 100 yards on a holy light seems a bit excessive. I would not be surprised to see this reduced to a more reasonable the 30-60 yard range.

The shaman changes on the other hand are flat out horrible. 3 or 4 minutes off the elemental totems are not going to convince any shaman to take these glyphs. There really is no situation where you can say…”yes, If only I had that extra 4 minutes off the totem…” If these glyphs were buffed to a 10 minute reduction or changed from major to a minor glyph you could make a case for them, otherwise I just don’t see any way you’d choose these over other glyphs.

Paladin

  • Glyph of Holy Light – Your Holy Light grants 10% of its heal amount to up to 5 friendly targets within 100 yds of the initial target. (range changed from 5 to 100 yards)
  • Glyph of Flash of Light – Your Flash of Light heals for 50% less initially, but also heals for 140% of its initial effect over 12 sec. (duration changed from 15 to 12 sec)

Shaman

  • Glyph of Fire Elemental Totem – Reduces the cooldown of your Fire Elemental Totem by 4 min. (old version was 3 min)
  • Glyph of Earth Elemental Totem – Reduces the cooldown of your Earth Elemental Totem by 4 min. (old version was 3 min)

Updated WotLK Glyphs

A few new glyphs added in the most recent beta build. Very disappointing to see the glyph of preparation has been changed (previously it reduced the cooldown of prep by 2 minutes). A 3 minute preparation would have been pretty insane though (new talent reduces it by 2.5/5 minutes).

Warrior

  • Glyph of Resonating Power – Reduces the rage cost of your Thunder Clap ability by 5.0.

Death Knight

  • Glyph of Rune Strike – Increases the critical strike chance of your Rune Strike by 10% but increases cost by 5.0 runic power. Down from 50.

Priest

  • Glyph of Fading – Reduces the mana cost of your Fade spell by 30%. Down from 50%.
  • Glyph of Spirit of Redemption – All heals cast while Spirit of Redemption is active have a 20% chance to increase the remaining duration of Spirit of Redemption by 5 sec. Down from 20 sec.

Rogue

  • Glyph of Preparation – Your Preparation ability also instantly resets the cooldown of Blade Flurry, Dismantle, and Kick.
  • Glyph of Garrote – Reduces the duration of your Garrote ability by 3.0 sec and increases the total damage it deals by 20%. Down from 45%.

Hunter

  • Glyph of Aimed Shot – Reduces the mana cost of your Aimed Shot ability by 20%.

Druid

  • Glyph of Aquatic Form – Increases your swim speed by 50% while in Aquatic Form. Up from 20%.
  • Glyph of Thorns – Removed.
  • Glyph of Regrowth – Increases the healing of your Regrowth spell by 20% if your Regrowth effect is still active on the target. Down from 50%.

Paladin

  • Glyph of Exorcism – Your Exorcism also interrupts spellcasting for 2 sec.
  • Glyph of Flash of Light – Your Flash of Light heals for 50% less initially, but also heals for 140.0% of its inital effect over 15 sec.
  • Glyph of the Warhorse – Removed
  • Glyph of the Wise – Reduces the mana cost of your Seal of Wisdom spell by 50%.

Below is the updated list of warrior glyphs which will be introduced when the wrath of the lich king is released. Note, you will be able to use 3 major and 3 minor glyphs at level 80. Make sure you check out the the Compiled Inscription Glyphs to see the other class glyphs.

Major Warrior Glyphs

  • Glyph of Revenge – After using revenge your next heroic strike costs no rage
  • Glyph of Barbaric Insults – Your mocking blow also taunts the target
  • Glyph of Cleaving – Reduces the rage cost of cleave by 5
  • Glyph of Execution – Your execute ability deals damage as if you had 10 additional rage
  • Glyph of Mortal Strike – Increase the damage of your mortal strike ability by 10% but the healing penalty is reduced by half
  • Glyph of Bloodthirst – Increases the healing you receive from your bloodthirst ability by 20%
  • Glyph of Whirlwind – Increases the number of targets your whirlwind ability hits by 1
  • Glyph of Hamstring – Gives your hamstring ability a 10% chance to immobilize the target for 5 seconds

  • Glyph of Frost Nova – Your Frost Nova targets can take an additional 20% damage before the Frost Nova effect automatically breaks.
  • Glyph of Frostbolt – Increases the damage dealt by Frostbolt by 5%, but removes the slowing effect.
  • Glyph of Ice Armor – Your Ice Armor and Frost Armor spells grant an additional 20% armor and resistance.

  • Glyph of Healthstone – You receive 30% more healing from using a healthstone.
  • Glyph of Searing Pain – Increases the critical strike bonus of your Searing Pain by 20%.
  • Glyph of Immolate – Increases the periodic damage of your Immolate by 20% but decreases its initial damage by -10%.
  • Glyph of Shadowburn – Increases the critical strike chance of Shadowburn by 20% when the target is below 35% health.
  • Glyph of Soulstone – Increases the amount of health a player gains from resurrecting via your Soulstone by 100%.

  • Glyph of Dispel Magic – Your Dispel Magic spell also heals your target for 6% of maximum health.
  • Glyph of Fear Ward – Reduces cooldown and duration of Fear Ward by 30 sec.
  • Glyph of Flash Heal – Reduces the mana cost of your Flash Heal by -10%.
  • Glyph of Prayer of Healing – Your Prayer of Healing spell also heals an additional 20% of its initial heal over 6 sec.

  • Glyph of Fade – Increases the effect of your Fade spell by 100%.
  • Glyph of Spirit of Redemption – All heals cast while Spirit of Redemption is active have a 20% chance to increase the remaining duration of Spirit of Redemption by 20 sec.
  • Glyph of Inner Fire – Increases the duration of Inner Fire by 100%.
  • Glyph of Shadow Word: Pain – Reduces the mana cost of your Shadow Word: Pain spell by -20%.
  • Glyph of Mind Control – Increases the duration of your Mind Control spell by 12 sec.
  • Glyph of Mind Soothe – Increases the duration of your Mind Soothe spell by 5 sec. and reduces the range at which the victim will attack by an additional 100%.

  • Glyph of Mass Dispel – Reduces the mana cost of Mass Dispel by -20%.
  • Glyph of Smite – Increases the chance you’ll resist spell interruption when casting your Smite spell by 50%.

  • Glyph of Levitate — Your Levitate spell no longer requires a reagent.

Shaman

  • Glyph – Water Shield 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – Your Water Shield has 3 additional charges.
  • Glyph – Chain Heal 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – Your Chain Heal heals 1 additional target.
  • Glyph – Lesser Healing Wave 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – Your Lesser Healing Wave heals for 20% more if the target is also affected by your Earth Shield.
  • Glyph – Earthliving Weapon 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – Increases the chance for your Earthliving weapon to trigger by 5%.
  • Glyph – Healing Wave 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – Your Healing Wave also heals you for 20% of the healing effect when you heal someone else.
  • Glyph – Mana Tide 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – Your Mana Tide Totem grants an additional 1% of each target’s maximum mana each time it pulses.
  • Glyph – Earth Shock 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – Reduces the global cooldown triggered by your Earth Shock ability by 1 sec.
  • Glyph – Frost Shock 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – Increases the duration of your Frost Shock by 2 sec.
  • Glyph – Strength of Earth 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – Your Strength of Earth Totem also grants 1% melee and ranged critical strike chance.
  • Glyph – Windfury Weapon 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – The attack power bonus on the additional attacks granted by Windfury Weapon is increased by 40%.
  • Glyph – Stormstrike 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – Increases the nature damage bonus from your Stormstrike ability by an additional 8%.
  • Glyph – Flame Shock 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – Increases the range on your Flame Shock ability by 10 yards.
  • Glyph – Lighnting Shield 01 (Shaman) (Class: Shaman) – Increases the damage from Lightning Shield by 20%.

  • Glyph of Seal of Command – Increases the chance of dealing Seal of Command damage by 20%.

  • Glyph of Blessing of Wisdom – Your Blessing of Wisdom causes your target to also regenerate health at the same rate as mana.
  • Glyph of Hammer of Wrath – Increases the range on Hammer of Wrath by 5 yards.
  • Glyph of Crusader Strike – Your Crusader strike deals 20% more damage when your targe is incapacitated or stunned.
  • Glyph of Consecration – Increases the radius of Consecration by 1 yards.
  • Glyph of Righteous Defense – Increases the chance for your Righteous Defense ability to work successfully by 8% on each target.
  • Glyph of Avenger’s Shield – Your Avenger’s Shield hits -2 fewer targets but for 100% more damage.
  • Glyph of Turn Evil – Reduces the cooldown on Turn Evil by 5 sec.
  • Glyph of Exorcism – Your Exorcism also interrupts spellcasting for 0 sec.
  • Glyph of Blessing of Kings – Your Blessing of Kings also increases attack power on affected targets by 3%.
  • Glyph of Flash of Light – Your Flash of Light heals for -50% less initially but also heals for 196% of its inital effect over 1 to 0 sec.
  • Glyph of Holy Light – Your Holy Light grants 10% of its heal amount to up to 5 friendly targets within 5 of the initial target.
  • Glyph of Blessing of Might – Your Blessing of Might also grants offensive spell power equal to 10% of the attack power it grants.
  • Glyph of Lay on Hands – Your Lay on Hands also grants you as much mana as it grants your target.
  • Glyph of Seal of Wisdom – While Seal of Wisdom is active the cost of your healing spells is reduced by -5%.
  • Glyph of Seal of Light – While Seal of Light is active the effect of your healing spells is increased by 5%.
  • Glyph of Blessing of Kings — Reduce the mana cost of your Blessing of Kings and Greater Blessing of Kings spells by 50%.
  • Glyph of Sense Undead — Damage against Undead increased by 1% while your Sense Undead ability
  • Glyph of the Warhorse — Reduce the casting time of your Summon Charger and Summon Warhorse spells by 0.5 sec.

New WotLK Inscription Glyphs

wow inscriptionSo we’ve all known that inscription is headed this way for the WotLK, and while there’s been a lot of speculation as to what may be in store for the profession nothing has really been finalized until now. Below is a just a taste of some of the new glyphs for inscription.

For those of you who aren’t up on inscription it’s pretty basic, just check out this brief introduction to inscription guide and you’ll get the gist of what’s in store.

While it’s great to at least some some of the preliminary information regarding the profession I’m already very excited to see what’s in store for the future, as well as some more advanced information regarding how the profession will work, materials, high end recipes, etc.

Hunter
Glyph – Aimed Shot 01 (Hunter): Decreases the cooldown of Aimed Shot by (-1) sec.
Glyph – Arcane Shot 01 (Hunter): Your Arcane Shot refunds 20% of its mana cost if the target has one of your Stings active on it.
Glyph – Aspect of the Beast 01 (Hunter): Increases the attack power bonus of Aspect of the Beast for you and your pet by an additional 2%.
Glyph – Aspect of the Monkey 01 (Hunter): While Aspect of the Moneky is active, each time you dodge you gain 30% increased movement speed for 6 sec. This speed does not stack with other movement speed increasing effects.
Glyph – Aspect of the Viper 01 (Hunter): You regenerate mana from Aspect of the Viper as if you had 15% less mana in your current mana pool.
Glyph – Bestial Wrath 01 (Hunter): Decreases the cooldown of Bestial Wrath by (-20) sec.
Glyph – Deterrence 01 (Hunter): Decreases the cooldown of Deterrence by (-20) sec.
Glyph – Disengage 01 (Hunter): Decreases the cooldown of Disengage by (-5) sec.
Glyph – Freezing Trap 01 (Hunter): When your Freezing Trap breaks, the victim is afflicted with a 40% snare, recovering 10% per sec. for 4 sec.
Glyph – Frost Trap 01 (Hunter): Increases the radius of the effect from your Frost Trap by 2 yards.
Glyph – Hunter’s Mark 01 (Hunter): Increases the attack power bonus of your Hunter’s Mark by 20%.
Glyph – Immolation Trap 01 (Hunter): Decreases the duration of the effect from your Immolation Trap by 6000 sec., but damage while active is increased by 100%
Glyph – Improved Aspect of the Hawk 01 (Hunter): Increases the effect of Improved Aspect of the Hawk by an additional 6.
Glyph – Multi-Shot 01 (Hunter): Decreases the cooldown of Multi-Shot by (-1) sec.
Glyph – Rapid Fire 01 (Hunter): Increases the haste from Rapid Fire by an additional 8%.

Glyph of Arcane Explosion 01 (Mage): Reduces mana cost of Arcane Explosion by 10%.
Glyph of Arcane Missiles 01 (Mage): Increases the range of Arcane Missiles by 5 yards.
Glyph of Arcane Power 01 (Mage): Increases the duration of Arcane Power by 3 sec.
Glyph of Blink 01 (Mage): Increases the distance you travel with the Blink spell by 5 yards.
Glyph of Evocation 01 (Mage): Your Evocation ability also causes you to regain 15% of your health over its duration.
Glyph of Fireball 01 (Mage): Increases the initial damage dealt by Fireball by 5%, but removes the damage over time effect.
Glyph of Fireblast 01 (Mage): Increases the critical strike chance of Fireblast by 50% when the target is stunned or incapacitated.
Glyph of Frost Nova 01 (Mage): Your Frost Nova targets can take an additional 20% damage before the Frost Nova effect automatically breaks.
Glyph of Frostbolt 01 (Mage): Increases the damage dealt by Frostbolt by 5%, but removes the slowing effect.
Glyph of Ice Armor 01 (Mage): Your Ice Armor and Frost Armor spells grant an additional 20% armor and resistance.
Glyph of Ice Block 01 (Mage): Your Frost Nova cooldown is now reset every time you use Ice Block.
Glyph of Ice Lance 01 (Mage): Increases the range of your Ice Lance by 5 yards.
Glyph of Icy Veins 01 (Mage): Your Icy Veins ability also removes all movement slowing and cast time slowing effects.
Glyph of Improved Scorch 01 (Mage): The Improved Scorch talent now generates 5 applications of the Improved Scorch effect each time Scorch is cast.
Glyph of Invisibility 01 (Mage): Increases the duration of the Invisibility effect by 5 sec.
Glyph of Mage Armor 01 (Mage): Your Mage Armor spell grants an additional 20% mana regeneration while casting.
Glyph of Mana Gem 01 (Mage): Increases the mana recieved from using a mana gem by 10%.
Glyph of Polymorph 01 (Mage): Your Polymorph spell also removes all damage over time effects from the target.
Glyph of Remove Curse 01 (Mage): Your Remove Curse spell also makes the target immune to all Curses for 6 sec.
Glyph of Water Elemental 01 (Mage): Reduces the cooldown of your Summon Water Elemental spell by (-30) sec.

Rogue
Glyph – Adrenaline Rush 01 (Rogue): Decreases the cooldown of Adrenaline Rush by (-60) sec.
Glyph – Ambush 01 (Rogue): Increases the range on Ambush by 5 yards.
Glyph – Backstab 01 (Rogue): Increases the damage dealt by Backstab to stunned and incapacitated targets by 20%.

Glyph – Crippling Poison 01 (Rogue): Increases the chance to trigger Crippling Poison by 10%.

Glyph of Corruption (Warlock): You Corruption spell has a 4% chance to cause you to enter a Shadow Trance state after damaging the opponent. The Shadow Trance state reduces the casting time of your next Shadow Bolt spell by 100%.
Glyph of Curse of Agony (Warlock): Increases the duration of your Curse of Agony by 4 sec.
Glyph of Death Coil (Warlock): Increases the duration of your Death Coil by 0.5.1 sec.
Glyph of Fear (Warlock): Increases the damage your Fear target can take before the Fear effect is removed by 20%.
Glyph of Felguard (Warlock): Increases your Felguard’s physical damage by 20%.
Glyph of Felhunter (Warlock): Increases your Felhunter’s spell damage by 20%.

Inscription 101 Guide

inscription guideInscription is the the new profession for World of Warcraft slated to be introduced when Wrath of the Lich King is released later this year. The profession will allow you to essentially enchant your skills, talents and abilities to further improve the potency of their effect. (ex. reduce cool down on AR, etc).

Using inscription is very simple. The inscriber will simply imbue a particular scroll with the various glyphs. These scrolls can then be sold and used by any one (note: enchanting works a similar way in the expansion). Now that we have these glyphs explained we need to go over how they can be used by players.

Every player, regardless of whether they have inscription or not, will have a new spell book page for these glyphs. You’ll be able to add and remove up to 6 glyphs to this page. These will be your 6 augmented spells / abilities that your inscription glyphs will give you an extra benefit. These 6 are split into 2 categories.

  1. Three Lesser
  2. Three Major

What defines each category is currently unknown, but I would imagine the level / effect associated with the glyph will have a large impact on it’s categorization. In order to get materials for these glyphs an inscriber must mill items from herbs, similar to the way jewelcrafters get materials via mining materials.
