The Violet Eye Reputation Guide
June 30, 2008 by Zuggy · Leave a Comment
The Violet Eye is the reputation associated with the 10-man raid instance, Karazhan. Being it’s the first 10-man instance in the Burning Crusade, chances are you’ll be spending plenty of time there. There is a host of great items, patterns, and other rewards you can attain from this faction.
How do I gain reputation with The Violet Eye?
Gaining reputation with the Violet Eye is very straight forward, kill trash mobs and kill the bosses inside of Karazhan. In addition to kill the monsters inside the dungeon you can also complete the few quest chains associated with the dungeon. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you’re looking at it) most of the quest objectives and starting locations are right outside of Karazhan itself.
The first quest you’ll pick up is your ring quest. There are 4 quests, one for each class of ring: healer, damage caster, melee dps, and tank. Each quest has 4 tier of rings you’ll be rewarded with as you gain reputation.

Aldor Reputation Guide
June 21, 2008 by Zuggy · 2 Comments
The aldor is the second of the main factions you’ll encounter in the Burning Crusade. But, as I mentioned in my Scryer reputation guide, you can only choose one of these.
How do I choose Aldor?
To choose the aldor as your faction you’ll have to first complete the Shattrath City introduction quest. Once you’ve had the grand tour of the place simply talk to Khadgar, he will allow you to choose either the scryers or aldor at this point.
Make sure you don’t choose the wrong one because it is incredibly difficult, time consuming, and expensive to change your reputation later.
How do you gain reputation with the Aldor?
Gaining reputation with the aldor is fairly straight forward. You have a few basic avenues to increase your reputation. The first one you’ll encounter is obviously questing.
There are aldor quests located in nearly every zone after you first make it to Shattrath City. I’m not going to list all of them out, but generally speaking keep an eye out for any NPC quest givers that have an “Aldor” tag under their name, or are Draenie.
Farming Mark of Kil’Jaeden
The first place you can farm for your reputation is in Terokkar forest. You’ll be seeking out Mark of Kil’Jaeden. These items drop off nearly all of the Cabal soldiers located in central Terokkar forest.
Farming Mark of Sargeras
This will be one of your primary avenues for gaining reputation. Mark of Sargeras drop off mobs over level 67 and are generally located in Shadowmoon Valley, Netherstorm, and some 5-man instances.
The mobs they drop off of are easy to kill, but you’ll want to be at least level 67 before attempting to venture to the zones where they are located. Generally speaking any mob classified as a “demon” will drop these marks.
Farming Fel Armaments
Finally, the last method of gaining reputation is through fel armaments. Quite honestly, this is your best bet for gaining reputation. Not only do you gain the most reputation (350 per), but you will also receive a holy dust
You can use this dust to purchase the aldor shoulder enchants. Since you’ll probably be changing your shoulder from time to time you’ll always need new enchants. So it’s best if you can purchase or farm enough fel armaments to not only gain reputation, but also to plan for your future shoulders.
To the left you ca see my favorite place to farm for fel armaments
Note: All of the above reputation items are turned in on the Aldor’s tier in Shattrath City

Scryer Reputation Guide
June 21, 2008 by Zuggy · 2 Comments
The scryers are one of two main factions in the Burning Crusade (the other is aldor; aldor reputation guide). Both of these factions
provide great rewards, but as they are at war with each other you can only pick one.
As you gain reputation with the scryers your reputation will go down with the aldor, and vice versa.
How do I choose Scryers?
First things first, you must choose between the aldor and scryers. You do this by talking to Khadgar after you’ve done the Shattrath City intro walk through quest. You can find him in the middle of Shattrath city.
How do you gain reputation with the Scryers?
There are several ways. The most straight forward is by simply doing quests for NPC’s of the Scryer’s faction. These are located throughout the world, and generally speaking they all give loads of experience.
Once you’ve chosen the Scryer faction you can get quests from the Scryer’s tier in shattrath city, and at other scryer outposts in Netherstorm and Shadowmoon Valley.
Initially you’ll be turning in firewing signets. These drop from all of the mobs in Firewing point, located along the eastern edge of Terrokar forest.
Once you are honored you can no longer turn in firewing signets, but now you’ll be turning in sunfury signets. Generally speaking, you’ll want to be level 68+ before attempting to farm these. They drop off higher levels monsters in Netherstorm and Shadowmoon valley, so it’s a real pain if you aren’t high enough.
In addition to sunfury signets, you’ll also want to be turning in your arcane tomes
In addition to reputation, you will also get an arcane rune for turning in the tome. This will be used to get the shoulder enchants from the scryers reputation vendor.
Speaking of rewards…let’s move on to the good stuff!

One of the main rewards from the scryers faction is the shoulder enchants. There are 2 levels of shoulder enchants, one of honored and one for exalted. In addition to the reputation you must also have arcane runes to purchase the enchants.

Best Professions for PvP
June 20, 2008 by Zuggy · Leave a Comment
Professions have always been a very important part of World of Wacraft. Offering a wide range of trinkets, armor, weapons, item buffs, gems, etc. The majority of these additions are readily available, especially for those players who have a good bit of time to farm or players who have large amounts of gold at their disposal.
Enchanting for PvP
It wasn’t until the expansion that blizzard added enchanting bop patterns for rings. They weren’t massive buffs, but certainly enough to entice the most hardcore players to make the gold / time investment to level enchanting and acquire these recipes.
Melee: +2 weapon damage / per ring
Casters: +12 spell damage / per ring
Healers: +20 healing / per ring
Stats: +4 all stats / per ring
I haven’t made the investment yet to level enchanting, though it’s certainly been on my mind. Obviously the biggest factor for me is the sheer gold investment, a friend who leveled enchanting several months ago estimated the cost of leveling the profession at around 2000g, seemed a bit high to me, and I’m sure it’s gone down since he leveled it. In any regard, that amount of gold for +4 weapon damage is somewhat staggering. For casters the +24 damage would have me a bit more intrigued, and I’ve certainly considered level it on my elemental shaman. Every little bit count, especially when it’s just that little extra that ensures you the kill.
Jewelcrafting for PvP
In patch 2.2 (which will hopefully launch sometime within the next 2 weeks) jewelcrafting gets a bit of extra love, BoP gems. So far the only two that I’ve heard of are the 18 stamina bop gem and 12 spirit bop gem. For all intensive purposes I don’t know many people who are stacking spirit for PvP, so we’ll ignore that one, though the 18 stamina gem is certainly a nice bonus for players who already have jewelcrafting.
Is 6 stamina worth leveling jewelcrafting, probably not. Though I fully expect to see more bop gems in the coming patches and expansion, so it’s certainly a profession we’ll want to keep an eye on.
Blacksmithing for PvP
Fairly self-explanatory here, if you are a warrior chances are you are a blacksmith. The weapons are simply overpowered, plain and simple. With great damage, speed, and procs it’s a no brainer for a warrior who has access to the nether vortexes.
Outside of the insane weapons found inside Black Temple, I cannot think of a better weapon than the T3 blacksmithing mace for warriors. The stun proc combined with warrior mace spec is just ridiculous. Even as a rogue with mace spec I understand how powerful that random interrupt is going to be when locking down your focus target. If you’re a warrior taking advantage of these weapons will be key.
Engineering for PvP
Before BC I considered myself to be the life long engineering, I loved all the situational trinkets and grenades, it made for very entertaining battlegrounds and world PvP encounters. Though the fizzle affect, which basically destroyed all my pre-BC trinkets, left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Though it seems engineering is finally making a bit of a comeback.
The biggest advantage for engineering has to be the 4k-invulnerability belt. Though as always with the engineering there is a chance to backfire, IE the reason Nekos (Troll Rogue of Shattered Hand) still has the highest (non-gimmicked) eviscerate record I’ve seen in arena, nearly 6,000 damage. Beyond the belt, which is certainly an enticing advantage to pickup engineering, there isn’t all that much. You can roll the dice on the reflectors and hope they don’t fizzle, and the new rocket boots aren’t bad, though there still are many improvements that could be made to the profession.
I’m looking forward to the alleged engineering revamp coming for the profession sometime around patch 2.3, I’d really love to see it brought back to the level it was prior to BC, though I doubt it’ll ever live up to those expectations.
Best PvP Professions - Conclusions
As with all professions and decisions you make in the game you have to weigh the consequences. The amount of gold to level these, the time investment, the pros and cons from dropping one profession and picking up another are all variables that will determine if a particular profession is right for you.
Of the four professions listed here I’d have to say that enchanting offers the most. The ring enchants will directly increase your killing / survivability power which may translate into more wins. When it comes down to the bottom line if gold = more damage, and more damage = more wins, then it’s an investment I’m willing to make and I’ll likely drop one of my current professions to pick up enchanting. I’m excited to see what’s coming for engineering and the possibility of new BoP gems for JC, though all that will come with time.
Blacksmithing 1-375 Leveling Guide
June 20, 2008 by Zuggy · 6 Comments
Blacksmithing is a great profession for some classes in World of Warcraft. Typically it’s reserved for warriors, rogues, and paladins. The profession is great because it offers some of the best plate armor and strongest weapons in the game.
You should note that even though Blacksmithing is a great profession it is something of a money drain. Due to the insane amount of materials required at certain points in the leveling process you’ll have to drop some serious gold. Though if you are a miner you can farm most of your materials on your own, certainly making the costs a bit more manageable.
That said, if you think you’re ready checkout the leveling guide below. So far it’s the fastest way I’ve found to level from 1 to 375. In addition to the items you’ll want to create I’ve included all the materials necessary for the entire leveling process.
Also, if you’re looking for additional guides on leveling your profession you need to check out Penn’s Profession Mastery. The guy is just a titan of profession, his guide details the fastest way to level up all 13 professions as well as details maps on locations of recipes, farming materials, and more.

Haha, but anyways, the easiest way to knock out these last few points is to take advantage of the reputation patterns from aldor or scryers.
