I’ve thought about this for a very long time as I progressed through higher raid contents. As a combat rogue, I always stacked agility gems for higher crit% since the spec relies on burst damage. Going through T10, I’ve realized the more agility i gained not only from my gems but through gear as well, the “Glyph of Sinister Strike” relied heavily on crit%. I have roughly 43% without any buff at the moment, and with full raid buffs, I end up with ~50%. So you do the math.. 50% chance of getting the extra combo point when crit strikes X 50% crit chance.. so roughly everytime I do a SS, I end up with 25% chance of a extra combo point. Neat eh? Just sharing my experience. ^^
