Halfus Wyrmbreaker Boss Strategy Guide

December 21, 2010 by · 3 Comments

halfus wyrmbreaker boss fight strategy guideHalfus Wyrmbreaker is the first boss in the Bastion of Twilight 10 / 25-man instance. This encounter is fairly basic and functions more as a gear check for the remainder of the dungeon.

Halfus Wyrmbreaker Boss Abilities

  • Fireball – standard attack, healers should be able to heal through these.
  • Flame Breath – standard frontal cone attack.
  • Malevolent Strike - Applies a stacking -5% healing received debuff. This buff means you’ll need to be rotating tanks.
  • Dragon Summon – summons dragons that act as Halfus’ pets. Each respective dragon will have its own individual abilities.
  • Summon Whelps - periodically summons whelps, low health, just AoE.
  • Whirlwind – at 30% life Halfus will begin periodically using this attack. Huge damage, all players need to try and avoid.

Slate Dragon Abilities

  • Paralysis Aura – Freezes entire raid for 15 seconds. You’ll need to be stacking as many HoTs as possible and use tank cooldowns to survive these periods.
  • Fire Barrage – Deals huge amount of damage to all targets within close proximity. Non-melee classes should be far enough out to avoid this.

Nether Drake Abilities

  • Nether Aura – 50% less hit, 50% lower attack speed, 25% damage reduction raid wide on all of these.
  • Frenzy – Gives Halfus +50% attack speed.

Time Warden Abilities

  • Snare - inhibits movement of the entire raid

Storm Rider Abilities

  • Interrupt - casting interruption every 0.5 seconds, raid wide. During this phase you are really limited to only casting instant spells.
  • Shadow Aura – Gives Halfus a ride wait knock back effect.

Halfus Wyrmbreaker Boss Fight Strategy Tactics

Fight begins by pulling. Initially there will be no pet dragons up, so try and do as much DPS as possible during this brief stage. Halfus will immediately begin stacking malevolent strikes, meaning you’ll want to swap tanks every 6-7 stacks, depending on the capability of your tanks and healers.

As soon as a dragon is summon you’ll want to switch all of your DPS to it. Be aware of the respective pet dragon abilities listed above and modify your strategy accordingly. Throughout the fight Halfus will also summon whelp groups. The tank that is not currently tanking Halfus should be ready to pick these up and they should be AoE’d down immediately.

At 30% Halfus will begin whirlwinding, this is the panic phase. Use all of your cooldowns to burn him as quickly as possible. Melee should try to avoid the whirlwind when possible.  Make sure to call it out before you hit 30% so your healers are prepared for the increase in damage.

Halfus Wyrmbreaker Raid Strategy Setup

As you get more comfortable with the strategy (and more gear) you  may find you are able to use fewer healers.

Valiona and Theralion Boss Strategy Guide

December 21, 2010 by · 2 Comments

valiona theralion boss fight strategy guideValiona and Theralion are the second boss encounter of the Bastion of Twilight. This fight will challenge any guild with an emphasis on positional awareness. In addition, it also has a somewhat unique mechanic in that there are 2 bosses with a single shared health pool.

Valiona and Theralion Boss Abilities

  • Blackout – The Blackout absorbs 200,000 healing on the target, when Blackout is removed or expires it causes 250,000 Shadow damage to enemies within 8 yards, splitting the damage between everyone hit by the Blackout.
  • Devouring Flames - Inflicts 50,000 Shadow damage every 1 second, the damage is lower the farther the target is from the origin of the Devouring Flames.
  • Dazzling Destruction – The Dazzling Destruction inflicts 15,000 Shadow damage to enemies within 12 yards and sends the target into the Twilight Realm.
  • Twilight Meteorite – Inflicts 146,250 – 153,750 Shadow damage to enemies within 0 yards, splitting the damage between nearby enemies.
  • Engulfing Magic – The Engulfing Magic mirrors all damage and healing you do, inflicting Shadow damage equal to the damage or healing you do to allies within 10 yards of you.
  • Dying Breath – Blue flame that deals 7,500 damage every second.
  • Deep Breath – Valiona takes a deep breath and begins to cast Twilight Flames which inflict 15,000 damage and send the target into the Twilight Realm.

Valiona and Theralion Boss Fight Strategy

The fight will begin with Valiona casting a spell called Blackout.  The raid should stack on the person who the Blackout spell is cast on to help distribute the 250,000 damage (Similar to the green ooze in the Professor Putricide encounter).  Next Valiona with cast Devouring Flames, this ability has a 2.5 second cast time and is channeled.  The raid needs to move out of the direction Valiona is pointing in order to avoid the frontal cone of Devouring Flames.  When Valiona nears her air phase she will cast Dazzling Destruction.  This spell causes 2 larges vortexes to appear on the ground.  Players should try to avoid these.  When Valiona enters her air phase Theralion will land.

Theralion will begin his ground phase by casting Twilight Meteorite.  This spell acts similarly to Blackout in that players should stack on the raid member he casts it on.  A purple arrow will appear above the head of his targeted raid member for the ability.  The next spell Theralion will cast is Engulfing Magic.  The player who is targeted by this spell needs to immediately move out and away from the raid as all his damage or healing done will be mirrored in Shadow damage to adjacent raid members.  Also, be sure to watch out for his Dying Breath ability.  Dying Breath will cause a blue fire to appear on the ground.  He casts it numerous times forming a semi-circle around him.  It is advised that the raid marks someone for everyone to follow while strafing out of the fire in order to stay together.

When Theralion is about to enter his air phase Valiona will cast Deep Breath three times.  Deep Breath engulfs half the room in fire and can be avoided by locating Valiona in the air and moving to the opposite side of the room.  After Valiona is finished with her third Deep Breath she will land and Theralion will enter his air phase.  At this point the fight repeats.

Enchanting Leveling Guide 1-525

December 3, 2010 by · 1 Comment

This Cataclysm Enchanting Leveling Guide is a sure fire way to level your enchanting the quick and easy way all the way from 1 – 525.

Enchanting is a fantastic profession for everyone class. All class types can benefit from leveling enchanting. Enchanting does not require any other profession to adequately use it (you’ll be deriving your materials from items you destroy, aka disenchant). That said, I find it helpful to use a gathering profession along with enchanting as it helps to offset some of the gold you’ll be spending to level it. If you’re thinking about leveling a gathering profession you should check out these guides:

The only downside to leveling enchanting is the huge gold outlay it requires. If you’re already a bit strapped for gold (and who isn’t these days) you absolutely need to check out this Cataclysm Gold Guide. It will show you how to use the auction house for around 20 minutes a day and start generating several thousand gold a week, all painlessly! Also, if you’re still working to level your character up and not yet using a leveling guide…well, you’re just giving days of your life away! Leveling guides can cut days off your /played time, using this guide I can Level from 1-85 in Under 7 Days.

November 29, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

This WoW Blacksmithing leveling guide will show you the quick and easy steps to level your blacksmithing profession all the way from 1-525.

Blacksmithing is a great profession for any plate wearers, even more so if you are planning on crafting one of the high end epic 2-handed weapons. Blacksmithing is ideally paired with mining. Leveling the two at the same time may help to cut down on your costs to level the profession. If you’re interesting in leveling mining, make sure to check out our mining leveling guide.

If you’re still leveling up your first character, or have already moved on to alt characters, then you absolutely want to be using a quality leveling guide. Leveling guides can cut several days off your leveling time and using this guide you can Level from 1-85 in Under 7 Days Played.

Cataclysm Insider Review

cataclysm insider reviewIf you’re like me, then you’re more than ready for Cataclysm to release. But while we’re waiting why not take advantage of the cash cow opportunity right in front of you?

Question #1 right now for everyone regarding Cataclysm is how to make enough gold to be fully prepared for the expansion. What are your plans? Are you sure you’re going to have enough gold stock piled for all the best new weapons, armor, mounts, consumables, pets, and other sweet items?

It’s not an easy question to answer. No one can say for sure about the impact of all these changes, only that it’s definitely going to mess up the economy (just like in expansions before). Some items you have will be utterly worthless, others may grow 10 fold in value, but it can be tough to tell which will do which.

It would have been enough to just introduce a new expansion with new items. But in addition, now stats are completely changed as well…leaving a lot of people scratching their heads at what to do.

So, the million dollar question. How do you make cash in a changing WoW economy so you can buy everything you want for the next 2 years?

Answer: Preparation. If you’re not preparing now, then you’re missing out on the opportunity of a lifetime.

Why a Guide?

You might be thinking, why should I buy a guide this late in WotLK. What could it tell me that I don’t know already. I’m not going to speak for everyone, but I can tell you that the sheer volume of changes is mind boggling. There are literally thousands of items who are going to be turned upside down. What’s going up? What’s going down? And how can we pick and choose the best items to see huge increases?

Cataclysm Insider answers these questions, and a ton others. It’s packed with literally months of beta and live server research and focuses on targetting specific items to stock pile and farm now because in the expansion they are going to be worth insane amounts more.

We’ve got just over a month until Cata’s launch. With just a few hours of prep each week you can:

  • Get rid of worthless items
  • Stock up on all the big hitting gold makers for Cata
  • Easily set yourself on the track to make serious gold for the launch

Right now we can’t say for sure how much gold stock piling these items will make. But what we do know is these items are going to be in high demand for the expansion. Players are going to want them and not want to have to go out farming for them. Those who have prepared for other expansions have always come out on top, but you’ve got to prepare the right way.

If you’re not preparing now, then you’re already behind. And once December 7th hits – you’re officially behind.

3 Biggest WoW Auction House Mistakes

October 27, 2010 by · 6 Comments

Over the course of my WoW career I have made no shortage of mistakes and errors when trying to play the auction house. It’s just a fact of life, prospective financial systems…both in the real and virtual worlds, are subject to poor decision making. But, if you want to win you’ve got to play the game. Some of my mistakes hold a special place in my memory and these are those stories.

1. Arcane Dust Monopoly Experiment

It was about halfway through the Burning Crusade. I had been playing around with the idea of trying to monopolize a particular good and hold the  entire market for a long period of time. At the time I was the wealthiest player on my server, with around 150,000 gold, so I was feeling pretty big and bad. So, after a few weeks of waiting I just did it…bought out the arcane dust wowentire auction house of arcane dust and inflated the price 300%. At first it was going great, I was making sales and it was looking perfect. But very quickly the AH started to fill back up.

To maintain my monopoly I continued to buy the incoming dust and after and initial 5,000 gold investment and 2,500 gold of continuous buying I finally gave up. But it was far from over. After it was all said and done I had 2 complete tabs full of arcane dust stacks, which over the course of the next 2 years (…yes, 2 years) I sold for an average profit of 0.5 gold per dust.

So what did I learn from this? Don’t try to game the auction house and create a monopoly of a good that is easily supplied by virtually any player

biggest wow ah mistakes2. Epic Item Failure

In my early days of AH farming I had always eye the big money items. Back in classic when a big epic item investment was 1 – 1.5K gold. There were big profit margins and I wanted in. So, after watching the market for what felt like a long time (in reality only a couple of weeks) I decided to make a go on a few different epic items. I spent nearly 2,000 gold on 2 weapons, which I thought were undervalued by around 50% for each item.

In any regard, I was unable to sell these items after around a month of listing and had to take a 30% loss on each of them just to move them before the expansion (TBC) was released. I today’s terms I didn’t lose a huge sum of gold, but back then 2,000g was a huge chunk of change and worth about $125 / 1000 gold on Chinese gold selling sites.

What did I learn? If you’re going to work in high value markets you’ve got to be 100% certain you know exactly what is going on in that market. High value items are risky and can burn you quickly if you don’t know all the facts.

3. Pricing Wars

This whole “mistake” is better said as, “don’t piss off the wrong people”. During TBC I was one of two gold making machines on my server. I always kept an eye on the other prominent gold making giant on my server, often watching the markets she was working and sneakily undercutting her. As time went on I wanted to push my gold making potential even further, so I started moving more and more into her markets and undercutting her dramatically.

Needles to say, she didn’t appreciate it this, and virtually over night began systematically targeted the item niches I was working in. Over the course of the next several months we battled it out, continuously undercutting each other. As WotLK drew near she disappeared once again, presumably to take a break, and when she returned it was as if nothing had happened. Either through forgetfulness or foregiveness the pricing war that wouldn’t end was finally over.

What I learned? Don’t engage in unnecessary pricing wars. In the end it just hurts the profit margins of everyone involved. Better to play nice and let everyone have their own share of the pie.

Cataclysm Gold Making Tip

October 22, 2010 by · 9 Comments

cataclysm gold making tipThe million dollar question…how to make gold in Cataclysm? After 2 years of WotLK there’s a certain level of expectation when it comes to making gold, but virtually all of that expectation and experience will be turned on it’s head come Cataclysm. So, it’s time to take a hard look at how we’re going to change to the new environment of the Cataclysm economy.

How to Make Gold in Cataclysm

Making gold during the first stages of a new expansion is perhaps the easiest it’s ever going to be. There’s a few reasons for this, most centered on the boom of the overall economy.

  • More people are playing
  • Everyone is gearing up

So, on day one, and really for the first several weeks I am taking a lesson from TBC and WotLK launches and going to power grind herbs and mining nodes. Simple? Yes. Effective? Insanely. Why? Simply put, everyone is gearing up…they need materials to level their professions, improve their gear, and of course raid / battleground.

Special note: Your will be able to use consumables in rated battlegrounds, consider the  implications here…it would be like using pots, flasks, etc. in arena. Crazy…most definitely. Hardcore teams will be fully buffed, guaranteed. Meaning a huge increase in the demand for alchemy and herbs.

A great deal of my gold making tactics are centered around the auction house because it’s generally the most time effective, but when Cataclysm hits you can be sure as Ralph Blitzer’s beard is hiding a 34th trapped miner, that mining / herbalism nodes are going to go through the roof. During the Cataclysm launch period (probably up to 12 weeks after) I was pulling close to 1,000 gold per hour herb’ing in a 3 zone circuit.

With the advent of tracking 2 nodes at the same time I can see this potentially reaching 3,500 gold an hour in the launch period for Cataclysm (that number is adjusted for forecasted inflation).

The Step by Step Process

  1. Level mining and herbalism to 450 prior to Cataclysm’s release
  2. Level to 85 as quickly as possible, herbing / mining while leveling is okay, but leveling is your primary focus. Remember, you want to focus on getting the ability to fly again, which increases your gathering efficiency 10 fold.
  3. Track both nodes and develop a gathering route for the top 1-3 herbs / mineral nodes needed.
  4. Be specifically on the look out for the “rare” type nodes used in flasks, fireleaf was insanely profitable before it was removed from the recipe. Also be on the lookout for mineral nodes in similar recipes.
  5. Watch the price differences between herbs / mineral nodes. If one is selling better than the other you should focus on that. Some zones may be better or herbs, others for mining, just be aware of the price gaps and change your gathering routes accordingly.

It’s a simple tactic, but one you shouldn’t overlook. Just like the business world first-movers get the advantage. If you’re going to make it to 85 pretty quick you ought to reap some of the benefits!
