Improve WoW Graphics
I saw this posted on a few other WoW sites a few weeks ago, and never really checked it out, but I have to say now that I have I’m impressed. Essentially, there are graphical options available via console macros and scripts that are not visible in your normal user interface.
Using the macro below you can dramatically increase the amount of vegetation you see on the ground, the distance at which objects draw on your screen, improve clarity and sharpness of objects, and get crisper weather effects.
/console groundEffectDensity 256
/console groundEffectDist 200
/console detailDoodadAlpha 100
/console horizonfarclip 2112
/console farclip 999
Note: You need to create a new macro and click it once for these changes to take effect.
Not too bad, eh? Needless to say, this puts an increased amount of stress on your video card. I have an 8800 GTS in my PC and normally run at the vert sync (60 FPS), but after this change I noticed I was dropping down to 45-50 at times.
You might just have to play around with some of the values to find that ideal graphics vs. performance happy medium. In the event you just want to go back to default simply create the following macro and run it. This will revert the changes of the first macro we created.
/console groundEffectDensity 16
/console groundEffectDist 1
/console horizonfarclip 1305
/console farclip 177
/console characterAmbient 1
/console smallcull 1
/console skycloudlod 1
/console detailDoodadAlpha 1
