Arena Talent Spec Guide
Alright well this is basically a repost of an answer to an earlier question in the Arena/PVP forums. A rogue was asking what spec he should go when he grabs his S3 weapons, and I think he stated his partners. The man eventually made a choice and he is happily shanking and poisoning people with mutilate. Anyways so often I always see people asking: With this partner what spec should I go?
Now Zuggy and others try their best to give them a solid answer, but I think these questions will help you find your own:
1 )What will benefit my team more?
This may vary from class to class and what role the class plays IE: For rogues will you need greater burst damage, mobility to stay on a target, longevity dps?(you get the point)
2) What spec do my partner(s) play?
Know your partners spec so that you may know what they are and aren’t capable of. Knowing these aspects you may decide what will compliment the team better and how to maximize success of play style. IE: HARP rogues best compliment a Shadowpriest, while Combat Rogues best work with a Discipline priest(please don’t argue about the disc/combat thing here…I’ve seen enough of it)
These questions I use when I hop between different 3v3 and 5v5 teams. They’ve really helped me and hopefully will do the same for you!
3) What type of play style do I enjoy/know most?
This question is very personally important. Ideally I always play specs that allow me to utilize well One-hander maces. I play: Combat Maces, Shadowstep maces and one point or another Hemo Hybrid maces. Anyways this is one of the most important things in choosing a spec that works and YOU ARE PROFICIENT in! Alright so like I said I love maces, and if I were to just go ahead and respec right now to daggers I’m going to get ROCKED. With maces my main Combo pt. generators: SS and Hemorrhage let me hit my opponent regardless of stance. With daggers as stated below I have to stand behind my jerk antagonist… My advice to you is when you choose a spec that totally changes your play style get some practice in a BG that way you get the gyst of how to kill or heal a guy and you don’t hurt your arena ratings in the learning process. It might seem tedious, but trust me I made that mistake: Shadowstep for the first time ever and BAM -100 rating from my 2v2 Sad. Basically try to find a spec that is similar to your comfortable style of play, but if you’re doing what’s absolutely best for your team ask for your partner(s)’ patience so that you may practice.
Note: Sorry about all those rogue examples, but I only play a rogue and I didn’t want to make a false/incorrect statement by trying to use another class as an example.
Edit: I most likely will edit this post with more questions to ask and details, but I think these are a good base to begin with.
